Highlights of January 27 Meeting
Our speaker was Helain Day, Development and Program Manager of Acronis SCSVets. Helain shared the work of Acronis SCSVets with the Club. Acronis SCSVets driving mission is to reduce veteran and military spouse under-and-unemployment and help eliminate America’s cyber workforce shortage by arming its participants with the internationally-recognized credentials, skills, and resources they need to pursue self-sustaining cyber careers – at zero cost to them.
Their vision is to be a collaborative community partner in measurably reducing the rate of military/veteran individuals and families experiencing under-and-unemployment over the next 10 years. Some issues they are dealing with are:
-- 32% of veteran job seekers say they are underemployed
-- 67% of military spouses leave jobs due to reassignments
-- 41% took at least three months to find new work
-- 70% of military spouses are underemployed

A successful fundraiser!
The Club's 20th Anniversary Annual Charity Golf Tournament took place Saturday, Jan 23 on Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Golf Resort.
The event was a great success and generated needed funds that will be utilized over the coming months to help some local area non-profits with their challenges and needs.
Highlights of January 20 Meeting
Past District Governor John Pennypacker spoke to us about the Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona, which was created by the Phoenix Rotary Club as a "hand up", rather than a "hand out". By contributing to the Rotary Vocational Fund, “you can help qualified candidates obtain education, training and skill development, so they may attain career-oriented employment and financial stability, and contribute to their communities. After the presentation, Club members participated in the final details and preparation for the upcoming Superstition Mountain Rotary Club 20th Anniversary Annual Charity Golf Tournament event that will take place Saturday, Jan 23, 2021 on Dinosaur Mountain course at Gold Canyon Golf Resort.Highlights of January 13 Meeting
The January 13 meeting was a celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the club, which is proud to have made an estimated $1 million impact to the community since it was formed! Various members reminisced about our major fundraisers, including 40 years with the Lost Dutchman Rodeo, 20 Years with the Lost Dutchman Marathon and 20 years of sponsoring our annual golf tournament. Over the years, those projects have provided the funds to help numerous organizations, including over $300,000 in scholarships to students at Apache Junction High School, two local charter schools and vocational students at Central Arizona College.
The meeting was attended by current Club members, previous members who have moved to other locales, Canadian members (who have been unable to cross the border this year), area visitors, and representatives from a number of local non-profits. Also in attendance were Rotarians from other area clubs -- as well District Governor Elizabeth Mahoney and District Governor Elect Bret McKeand. Attendees participated both live and via Zoom.
Past District Governor Don LaBarge reported on the 2020 Salvation Army Bell Ringing project and thanked the members of our club for ringing the bell for two days. Despite having less bell ringers than usual at Bass Pro Shops, a new record of was set, with collections of $20,374.42!
Brian Kabat was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow for his generosity to the community.
Dave Webb was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow for his donation and technical help with getting our hybrid club meetings launched.
In celebration of our 60th, President Harvey presented checks to four charitable organizations in the community:- Apache Junction Police Chief Tom Kelly accepted a check for $500, to be used by the Friends of Apache Junction for new personal protective equipment
- $1,000 was presented to Superstition Community Food Bank board member Gary Kloepkorn on behalf of the Food Bank
- Dr.Krista Anderson, Superintendent of the Apache Junction Unified School District, accepted a check for $500, to be used for their 'Teacher of the Year' program
- $1,000 was presented to Rush Tucker, for use by the United Methodist Food Bank in Gold Canyon.
Highlights of January 6 Meeting
The club held an Assembly, focusing on planning/co-coordinating upcoming planned events, including volunteer sign-up for the 20th Anniversary Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Volunteers are involved in registration, auction, ball-drop, photography, etc that a large charity event such as this requires.Another big topic of discussion was, and will continue to be, planning the year ahead. Covid-19 has caused a number of our fund raising events to be cancelled for the year, including the Lost Dutchman Days Rodeo and The Lost Dutchman Marathon, which has gone virtual for 2021. Ongoing Covid-19 cancellations and changes mean the Club is being challenged to be creative with effective fund raising ideas.
One creative--and generous--member is Jeff Mitchell, who is volunteering his expert automotive detailing services. The amount you would normally pay Jeff for detailing your car will instead be paid to the club. Jeff will provide all of the supplies and when he gets done you'll feel like like you have a new car!
