MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
November 29

Charlotte Thomas, General Manager, and Emma Reyes, Municipal Manager, from Republic Services spoke about recycling opportunities provided to our communities by Republic Services and how consumers can recycle effectively. Consumer recycling information is important, as it can be easy for well-intentioned consumers to inadvertently toss something into a recycle bin that should not be placed there -- and end up creating a negative effect of jamming the recycling machines. One goal of the presentation was to help bring awareness of the best items that can be recycled.

The Club was pleased to have Hazel Rossi, 'Assistant Director High School Programs' - Central Arizona College (CAC), as our speaker. Hazel shared information about the wealth of educational resources available at Central Arizona College for high school/college students. Some topics she covered included information about the campus today, as well as future plans for the campus. She shared information about the options available, as well as the reasons for students to consider starting college while in high school. In addition to basic college-level classes, there are specialty pathways available for students to take advantage of as they plan their future careers. So many college resources are available for students, providing them with excellent resources and opportunities for learning. Additionally, CAC offers comparatively lower tuition than Maricopa or other Arizona universities. For more information, visit  https://centralaz.edu/

Stephanie Joyner, Director of the Pinal County Historical Museum, shared interesting information about the museum. The Pinal County Historical Society was founded in the late 1950s by a group of private citizens who were dedicated to preserving the history of Pinal County. Over time, that group evolved into today's Museum. Their focus has been on Florence and the surrounding Gila River valley areas, as well as events and people who have shaped the growth and development Florence. The Museum has gained a reputation for handling artifacts professionally and respectfully, which has encouraged more families to donate heirlooms that enrich the region's history. Events include a speaker series covering a range of topics and monthly 'Family Days' that feature activities for children.
