Barb Plante – Gold Canyon Soroptimists
ImageWith similar goals, local Rotarians and Soroptimists are natural partners. Rotarians in our club have already participated in some Soroptimist activities in the past; as have some of Soroptimist members participated in ours. Barbara Plante, President of the Gold Canyon Soroptimists, focused her talk on identifying projects where both of our clubs can participate.
Soroptimists of Gold Canyon defines itself as Women Who Help Women and Children. Fundraising efforts have gone to support the following causes…
  • Women’s Opportunity Award – $1,500 is awarded to a single woman head of household who is currently enrolled in school
  • Violet Richardson Award – $500 goes to a high school student involved in volunteer work – half goes to the organization of their choice.
  • Pinal County Foster Care – an education grant program. Soroptimists donated $6,000 to fund education for foster care children who must leave the system at age eighteen. These young people still need help. The $6,000 contribution provided $500 per student for twelve students.
Rotarians can partner up with the Soroptimists by taking part in many of their community activities.
Military Family Support Group
Care packages for the troops are sent overseas each month.
Footprints Matter – January 21, 2012.
This year will be the 3rd year cleaning up unsightly trash in our community. Last year 70 tons of trash was collected which included 300 tires. Right now the group needs to identify specific areas needing clean up.

This activity is held on the first Saturday in March each year. Volunteers offer both financial and physical assistance in maintaining properties to those with limited abilities or resources.
