Jackie Hough, Attorney at Law, was our speaker today. Jackie specializes in estate planning, and provided a very interesting and appropriate program.
February 20
Whitney Hensiak was our speaker. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we learned much about Family Emergency Communication Planning.
February 27
Dr. Krista Anderson, Superintendent of the Apache Junction Unified School District, spoke about the challenges the school district is facing, as well as the new strategic plan for the district. Goal areas include academic excellence, community engagement, a culture of continuous improvement and the examination and evaluation of systems. Work is ongoing to become more fiscally responsible and to minimize inefficiencies.
Mike Sheridan was installed as a member of the club on February 6, 2019.
Ben Fellows was presented with his Paul Harris plus one at the February 6 meeting.
Preliminary Rodeo Results
Ed Shockley announced that we received $2,650 in tips, and sold all 500 koozies. Beer sales were comparable to last year.
Rotary Milestones
Jay Jones announced that February 23rd was the 114th anniversary of Rotary.
Lee Holmes also announced that 2019 is the fifth year of the Paul Harris Society.
Upcoming service opportunities:
Ed Shockley announced that our next service date at the food bank is March 25 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We will work in two hour shifts, and need five people per shift. Please let Ed know if you are able to participate.
Jacquie Smith announced that the Arizona Water Festival for fourth graders (https://arizonawet.arizona.edu) is scheduled for April 25 at Prospector Park. They need volunteers, so if you are available to help, please let her know. For more information. arizonawet.arizona.edu.
Dena Kimble drew the winning card to win the drawing. She donated the entire $950 to the Apache Junction Unified School District! The money will be used for the Teacher of the Year project.
