MEETING DETAILS
May 6

Braden Biggs, Director of Communications and Program Development at Empowerment Systems, gave us an update of their key programs at our meeting today.

Empowerment Systems is a suite of non profits that focuses on multi-dimensional and mental wellness, trying to cover all aspects of wellness.

One of their bigger programs is their community outreach connection center (CORC). CORC is a day center that operates Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm., where  community members can get help with identification and enrollment in healthcare benefits and social services for which they are eligible. One of Empowerment Systems' partners is Arizona at Work, which helps people find jobs.

Other Empowerment Systems programs include:
  • Monthly healthy harvest food distribution, which offers a drive-through food pick-up service on the third Wednesday of every month.
  • During the COVID-19 precautions, food box delivery to people who shouldn't leave their homes
  • Laundry services for homeless people, in partnership with Superstition Express Laundry

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS

Club Leadership Academy is being presented via ZOOM on May 9th and 16th from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm each day. For detailed information and login instructions, check your email inbox for information from DGE Elizabeth Mahoney, or visit https://rotary5495.org.

Jay Jones also mentioned that Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will be held virtually on May 30. More information will be available soon.

Krista Anderson gave an update on the plans that are in place for Apache Junction high school graduation. Due to COVID-19, there will be a modified graduation ceremony. On May 20 and 21, each senior will walk across the stage and be presented with a diploma, with up to four guests attending. All presentations will be video taped and broadcast drive-in movie style at the rodeo on June 5. On Friday, May 15, the lights at the football field will be turned on for 20 minutes, and the seniors can parade in their cars during that time.

Rescheduled to November 7, 2020! In the interest of the health and well being of our club members and guests, we will not be holding the event at Barleens on March 21, 2020. We have secured a new date of November 7, 2020. Seat assignments will remain the same.
