MEETING DETAILS
May 20

Our scheduled speaker, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, was unable to attend today, so we used the time for other important business.

Bob Benjamin reported that the club received a $5,000 donation from an anonymous source, to be used in the community as a stimulus to help those in need. After considering multiple options, the board voted to disperse the funds to local programs that are currently supported by the Club: $1,000 each to Community Alliance Against Family Abuse (CAAFA); Boys and Girls Club of Apache Junction; Genesis Project; Feed the Children (AJUSD) and Project Help. We know that each and every one of these programs will put these funds to great use under these unexpected demands and conditions. We recognize that these organizations are being pushed to the limits providing assistance to individuals and families.

President-Elect Harvey Clark announced that he has submitted grant applications in the amount of $2,500 each for Put on the Cape and Teen Strong. Put on the Cape was started by a police officer to help abuse victims through the use of super heroes. Teen Strong is a boutique website dedicated to making a difference in the lives of teen girls. These organizations were created in Arizona, and Harvey has hopes that we can help both of them expand to other states.

The board approved a $500 contribution to the Lost Dutchman Foundation, to be added to a fund set aside to distribute $20 restaurant coupons to the graduating seniors from Apache Junction high school. The coupons can only be used at local restaurants, making it also a benefit for struggling restaurants.

Bill Pepple announced that we are getting really close to meeting our goal for Polio Plus. If you haven't already done so, you can help us reach that goal by logging into https://my.rotary.org to create your account and set up your donation.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS
On Wednesday, May 27, we're going back to live meetings at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort. The resort is reserving the large dining room for us, so we'll be able to be compliant with CDC social distancing guidelines. We will have our usual buffet. If you want to attend virtually via ZOOM, watch for President Bob's email invitation.

Jay Jones announced that Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) will be held virtually on May 30. It is free for anyone to attend. Watch for more information soon from the coordinator, Polly Cady.

What a great opportunity to attend the Rotary International Convention! The Rotary International Virtual Convention will be held June 20-26, and is free to all Rotarians. Visit https://www.riconvention.org for additional information.

The Barleens event is still on track for November 7, 2020! If social distancing is still necessary, the Barleen family is prepared to do two shows, or an outdoor event.
