Our speaker, Dr Glen Walp, President of Gold Canyon's Adobe organization, has a long background in various areas of law enforcement and holds a Ph.D. in Human Services, with a specialization in criminal justice from Walden University. Tapping information from his experiences working in the criminal justice system, Glen shared stories with Club members about serial killers who have existed over the years. The presentation was both informative and entertaining. One of his messages to the audience was to 'always be aware of one's surroundings'.
Currently he is owner/operator of Desert Bloodhound LLC, Ironclad Home Security Watch LLC and Justice Publishing LLC', and is a listed expert witness in police policy and procedures. He is employed part-time as a consultant and instructor for Penn State University in their Justice and Safety Institute, teaching police executives nationally and internationally. He is also the author of the international award winning book, 'Implosion At Los Alamos'.
Dr. Kristen Bishop, Founder and Medical Director N.D. from Keystone Family Medicine, was our speaker. Keystone Family Medicine focuses on the 'whole person' in a holistic way, and follows a business model of providing 'Direct Primary Care', instead of being limited by insurance industry driven health services. DPC is direct primary care to patients, without the middleman of insurance companies. Individuals/families pay a monthly subscription, which provides access to a whole host of services at no additional cost, or some with a reduced rate.
A wide range of health services are available, ranging from routine and follow-up visits, sick visits, spinal adjustments, sauna therapy, EKG, cold laser, acupuncture, injections, and herbals, as well as many other services. Additionally, naturopathic physicians are licensed to provide scripts for traditional Western medicines, deal with lab services, and handle many of the same health services Western Medicine physicians handle. Keystone's priority is getting to the 'root' of health issues and reversing them naturally, not just treating them.
Dr Bishop began her healthcare career working in traditional sports medicine. While in that field, she began seeing how much 'the system' and 'big insurance companies' dictate health care. After working for several years in traditional sports medicine, she took a work hiatus, focusing on becoming a mom to four wonderful children. During that hiatus, she switched her medical focus to naturopathic medicine and went back to school to gain more education in that field.
From that point, 'Keystone Family Medicine' was formed. Today, Keystone has three offices - Mesa, Phoenix, and Chandler - employing more than a dozen naturopathic physicians, and support staff. In addition to 'Direct Primary Care' monthly subscription plans available for individuals /families - if membership plans don't fit an individual's needs, a person can make appointments using the 'pay-for-single-appointment-plan'. Keystone also offers 'employer membership plans' which allow companies to provide health care for their employees. Club members participated in a lively Q&A, asking questions about naturopathic medicine, how it works, how Western medicine interacts, supplement questions - and more.
