Our guests today were our speaker Bobbi Sudberry of Kaity's Way and potential member Brian Kabat, owner of Frontier Ace Hardware in Apache Junction. There were 26 club members present today.
1. Bob Crow checked on Harrell Miller who lives in Napa, CA where the strong earthquake hit. Harrell and Jan are OK but they did have some things tip over that were not fastened to the wall and had some glasses broken by the quake.
2. Bryant introduced Brian Kabat, the owner of Ace Hardware in Apache Junction, as a potential member. Brian has attended twice and needs to come one more time. He has submitted his application for membership.
3. Bryant read the list of July and August birthdays, wedding anniversaries and club join anniversaries.
4. Harvey Clark apologized for saying Paul Gosar was not running when in fact he is. He passed around a sign-up sheet again for attending the talk by Corey Remsburg on September 24.
5. Mike Munion announced there would be a meeting of the Golf Tournament Committee after the meeting.
7. Bill Burrows brought us the news of the day.
8. Aaron McDermid, our Sargeant-at-Arms, squeezed some fines out of members for our chronically needy budget. He actually gave $1 back to Matt Ruppert for a good quip but then got it back by fining Matt.
9. The drawing today was worth $451. Jack Beveridge won the drawing and $10 but drew the six of clubs.
Harvey Clark introduced our speaker Bobbi Sudberry of Kaity's Way. Harvey learned of Kaity's Way through Jerry Monohan - former police chief of Apache Junction.
Bobbi lost her 16-year old daughter Kaity to her daughter's ex-boyfriend who killed Kaity and then killed himself. Kaity's Way is a 501c3 organization set up by Bobbi to honor the memory of her daughter. The goal of the organization is to lessen the instances of violence
among and against young people. A violent relationship is a relationship where at least one person within the relationship chooses to emotionally, verbally, or physically cause harm to another in the relationship.
The acronym used by Kaity's Way is PEACE - Patience, Empathy, Acceptance, Caring and Equality. Bobbi will come to any interested 501c3 organization (schools, universities, Boys and Girls clubs, scouts, etc.) to make a presentation. She is interested in helping not only the victims of violence but the perpetrators of it as well.
She suggested ways to help Kaity's Way - donations, sponsoring a presentation at an event, donating in-kind services and just spreading the word about the program. They also collect unwanted cell phones as a fund raiser for Kaity's Way.
