April 27 Meeting Our speakers were five members of the Apache Junction High School student council, who gave us an update on what they learned at the Disney Leadership Training they attended. They also thanked the Club for our financial assistance to make it possible for them to attend. Me mbership Chair Lee Holmes presented newly re-activated member Heather Wallace, Superintendent of Apache Junction Unified School District, with her badge and a "Women in Rotary" pin. Welcome back, Heather! April 20 Meeting O ur speaker was Gary Darling, retired major league baseball umpire. Gary entertained us with stories from his career as an umpire. He also told us about the UMPS CARE Charity. UMPS CARE provides financial, in-kind and emotional support for America’s youth and families in need. Founded in 2006, UMPS CARE provides VIP experiences to participants from youth-based organizations and military families, visits to pediatric hospitals (complete with Build-A-Bear furry friends) and college scholarships. April 13 Meeting Our speakers were Club Member Brian Kabat and Liz Langenbach, Parks & Recreation Director for City of Apache Junction, who spoke about the Apache Junction Service Club sign and progress being made with the project. They shared conceptual design drawings, info about the proposed location, how the sign will be maintained, and other information about this important project for the community. April 6 Meeting  Our speakers were Salvation Army members who shared information about Salvation Army programs and also entertained the Club with their humor, wit and uplifting songs and music. |
