Lost Dutchman Marathon 8K Trail Run - Service Project/Fundraiser
The Club handled the water tables and marshal roles for the 8K trail run on February 20th. Since its inception in 2002, the marathon has donated over $733,000 to various local organizations that serve economically disadvantaged youth. Thank you to everyone who helped--especially Bob Benjamin and Terralle Moore, who contributed over 200 hours to making our part of the race successful. For more information on the marathon, visit

The club was entertained by Jay Mitchel who is a Balladeer from Apache Junction. Jay is with the Canyon State Band. February 9 Meeting
Jill Miller and Brenda Hunsaker represented Apache Junction Little League Programs, with Brenda sharing information about the programs. She spoke about the challenges and rewards of the program -- and how much the program helps young people in our community. Covid brought about additional challenges for the program -- but now the program is again growing as more students have joined. A goal of the program has been to keep the program as low cost as possible for young people to be able to participate and play the sport. Additional funding is needed to help support the program and various equipment needs. February 2 Meeting
Our speaker was Kurt Cavano, owner of Four Peaks Amethyst Mine, located on private land in the Four Peaks Wilderness. Amethysts from the mine are known as 'Siberian Red Amethysts'. The stones have a red flash when viewed under natural light. The Ural Mountains in Russia is the only other place producing this color of amethyst. Kurt spoke about how the gems are formed in nature and he also brought amethysts which Club members were able to purchase. To read more about the Four Peaks Amethyst Mine visit,
