President Sharon Stinard - Club Assembly

ImageJuly signals the beginning of a new Rotary year. In-coming club president, Sharon Stinard, presented past-president Aaron McDermid with a plaque as an expression of gratitude for his leadership this past year. Inducted as a Rotarian just three years ago, Aaron accepted the award with gratitude to everyone who assisted him during his year as president and in particular he recognized Dan Govinsky, club treasurer, for his guidance and support.

President Sharon began her remarks by celebrating our club’s accomplishments and member contributions to a very successful year.  Not only did we receive several district awards but we have once again made significant contributions to our local youth and to the community through our service projects. Sharon specifically recognized the on-going efforts of several Rotarians; Bob Crow, Dan Govinsky, Bob Homann, Bob Benjamin, Mike Dungan and the Board of Directors for all they have done for the club this year.

Sharon wants to see our club continue to build upon its successes. She encourages every member to become involved in club projects or activities and enjoy the satisfaction which comes from service to others.  We each have unique life experiences, wisdom, energy and ideas to contribute that will support Rotary’s impact and influence in our community and around the world.  Rotary club membership has much to offer us too.  As we enjoy the fellowship and fun of our weekly meetings, experience the satisfaction of a job well-done through one or more of our service projects or derive a sense of accomplishment from knowing that we have exceeded our club’s contribution goal toward eradicating polio from the world; we have experienced the joy of Rotary membership. We are proud of the fact that the Superstition Mountain Rotary Club does make a difference!

The new Directors and Officers for 2012-13 year were introduced.  They are Beth Woodruff, Secretary; Bob Benjamin, Treasurer/Bulletin Editor; Len LaFlesch, President-Elect; Mike Dungan, Sergeant of Arms; and Directors, Harvey Clark, Frank Hulme, and Bryant Powell

Rotary International has now established five standing club committees. The Administration Committee will be co-chaired by Sharon Stinard, Len LaFlesch and Aaron McDermid; the Service Committee by Sergeant Mike Dungan and his Deputies; the Foundation Committee by Bob Crow and Dan Govinsky; and the Public Relations Committee by Bryant Powell and Matt Ruppert.  The formation of the committees that replace the Avenues of Service will give members a greater opportunity to influence our club’s direction, effectiveness and success in meeting out goals.

Sharon ended her remarks by inviting members to participate in an Open Forum.  Bob Homann, as program coordinator, gave an update on the new program speaker procedure. Bob is asking club members to submit speaker suggestions for specific time frames.  Bob Benjamin, as bulletin editor, will be asking club members to become staff writers and write the program summary for the bulletin when his treasurer duties take time away from the meeting.

Editor’s Note:  This will be Sharon’s second time as president having previously held the position in 2003. Way to go Sharon and have a great year!
