UPDATE ON MEETINGS

By President-Elect Harvey Clark

The Superstition Mountain Rotary Club, like everyone else, has been challenged by the COVID 19 precautions. Our in-person meetings have been curtailed and our Gold Canyon Golf Resort temporarily closed. These are unprecedented times, but I am reporting that your President, Bob Benjamin, and your Board has been working behind the scenes on many ideas to keep our members engaged.

Bob has researched ZOOM as a means to conduct on-line meetings, and the Board helped test the process. The first virtual meeting was conducted by the Board on April 1. (There have been some recent news reports that ZOOM was having “hack” issues. ZOOM announced on April 14 that they have a new version available that fixes many of the issues.  We have installed the most recent updates.)

We have now implemented ON-LINE ZOOM meetings for all members, every Wednesday from 12-1 pm (lunch is on your own!). You will be able to engage by Video or by telephone. We will convert our Speakers to a 20- minute presentation. We are still working on the logistics of how to do our drawing – as we are down to about 10 cards – and Happy Bucks stay tuned.

We are looking at the most convenient way to purchase tickets and pay dues, including a secure payment system on our web site. You can always pay be check and mail to P.O. Box 565, Apache Junction, AZ 85117. Mail is picked up at least every other day.

Recognizing the importance of staying in touch with our nearly 40 members, the Board agreed that telephone call “Welfare Checks” will be made to each member – after all, our Rotary Family is very important.

On April 9, Rotary International hosted a Webinar on Best Practices for Driving Club Success during COVID-19, which I participated in. I am pleased to report that our club has actually identified many of the RI suggestions and are already implementing them. I am very proud of our club leadership!

To all our members, I wish you all the very best and pray you stay safe. If you have any needs, please reach out to any Board member and we will help in any way we can.
