GUESTS AND VISITORS
Visiting Rotarians today were Dick Dehlinger of the Downtown Olangapo Rotary Club in the Philippine Islands and "Van" Van Jepmond of the Rotary Club of Lacey, WA.  Visitors today were Erin Gruble of Vancouver, Canada and Anjah Baig.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS
1. There is a Golf Tournament meeting and a Board meeting - both after today's meeting.
2. President Matt passed around a bucket to receive money "Thank Yous" for Maria and the other resort staff who take care of us at Rotary meetings.
3. There are no meetings the next two weeks due to the holidays.
4. Harvey went over the January speaker schedule and encouraged members and winter visitors who plan to be present to register on sign-up sheets in the main dining room.  That includes any spouses or guests you plan to bring.
5. Visiting Rotarian Richard Dehlinger exchanged banners with President Matt.  Rich's club banner was from the Downtown Olangapo club in the Philippines.
6. President Matt announced that the district is looking for help with the Rotary Youth Exchange.  See him for more information.
7. Jay Jones spoke of a program to write Christmas cards and letters to service people. If you would like to help, contact Jay ASAP.
8. Matt presented resort manager Carlo with a $550 check from the club for the resort staff that assist Rotary meetings.
9. We desperately need prizes for the Golf Tournament.  There will only be two meetings before the tournament when we come back on January 6.  See if you can find prize donors or buy something yourself during the next two down weeks.  Len sent out forms to use by email to all club members.
10. Aaron McDermid raised lots of money "for the children".
11. Jay Jones won the drawing and $10 but he drew the 5 of spades.  We are down to 19 cards next week with the pot growing ever larger.

MEET OUR NEWEST MEMBER
Mary K. Gilleland is our newest member.  Mary is Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central Arizona College.  She lives in Coolidge but arranges her Wednesdays so she can do business at the Superstition Mountain campus in Apache Junction and attend our club meetings. Sharon Stinard is her club sponsor.  Welcome to our club Mary!

SPEAKER
Harvey Clark introduced our speaker of the day, Rene Batson, Marketing Manager for Mountain Vista Hospital on the corner of Crismon and Southern in Mesa.  Rene has been employed by MVH for 2 years and manages the Volunteer Services Department, the Senior Advantages Program and Community Outreach for the hospital.  She recognized Bob Crow who's wife Jennie participates in the Volunteer program. There are over 200 volunteers working at the hospital.

Mountain Vista has been open since 2007.  It is a medium size facility with 178 private rooms.  Some of the hospital highlights Rene mentioned were: an Emergency Department with helicopter transport services, a pediatric unit, a chest pain center, a stroke unit, an Alzheimer's unit and a hip, knee & hand center.  Her handouts gave more information.

The hospital's Senior Advantage Program provides a variety of health courses in the "Senior Seminar Series" such as "Diabetes and Your Feet" amd "Guard Your Heart".  Membership in the Senior Advantage Program costs $15 per year for a single or $25 for a couple with lunch being provided so it is a good deal.  Volunteers attend free.

The hospital also sponsors support groups for Diabetes, Stroke, Alzheimers, and Caregivers.

Mountain Vista recently established a Patient Advisory Board to provide feedback to the staff on hospital services.

Thank you Rene for your talk.  We are happy to have Mountain Vista in close proximity to our communities.
