DISTRICT CONFERENCE SUMMARY
Rotary District 5510
Conference of Clubs
2015-2016

Jay Jones, Jim Erickson and Ed Shockley attended the District Conference,
“Conference of Clubs” held in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 20th and 21st,
2016.
The two day event featured the VP of Rotary International, Greg Podd. He
was accompanied by his wife Pam. His Arizona club is in Scottsdale and he is a former District 5510 Governor.
He visits his home club when he is in town. Mr. Podd spoke eloquently about Rotary
International and the challenges of dealing with approximately 200
countries, 9 languages and 19 currencies. This man and his team are
committed! He spoke highly of his relationship with the RI President,
Ravi Ravindran. A member of the Rotary Club of Sri Lanka. Ravindran's theme
for 2015-2016 is to “Be a Gift to the World”.
The conference covered a summary of numerous 5510 Club Projects including
water filters for people in Guatemala, recycling trash at an Arts and Crafts
Fair in Fountain Hills, a CHOICE’s Program to encourage kids to stay in
school and assist them with a career path, address hearing problems in
Mexico with hearing tests and hearing aids, Microcredit projects, and a
Day for Special Needs Children with face paint, ring toss, train rides at
McCormick Train Park and food. It was an endless stream of good works
for the community and other countries.
The young adults from Rotaract, RYLA, Interact, RYE, and New Generations
allowed numerous leaders in these groups to share their past and current
contributions and their goals for the future.
Countless awards were given. Jim Erickson participated in the District
Awards. He is also a member of the Steering Committee for the merger of the
2 districts (5490 and 5510) into a new District.   Jay Jones was a member of the Planning Committee for this Conference of Clubs and was the parliamentarian
for the Council on Legislation. Jim and Jay are an integral part of the Rotary
family. We are fortunate to have them in our club!
Fantastic people, speakers, entertainment, food and fellowship. I could not
name everything that was addressed at this conference. The bottom line is
that this is truly an organization that is making huge contributions to the
world. You are a part of something exceptional!

SPEAKER
President Matt introduced our speaker of the day - Pamela Raye.  Pam is from Hinsdale, NY.  She is a Cornell University graduate who moved to AZ 5 years ago.  Her main interest is promoting healthy living. Pam is here today to talk to us about the Tower Gardens created by Juice Plus for whom she is an independent representative.
Tower Gardens are state-of-the-art, aeroponic vertical gardens.  Aeroponics is an advanced form of hydroponics in which plants grow in water usng liquid nutrients and a soilless growing medium. The towers have been successfully used here in Arizona.
If you would like to know more, check out Pam's website at www.PRaye.Tower Garden.com or email her at PRaye.TowerGarden@gmail.com.
